Understanding ADHD
Better understanding attention-deficit disorder
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the ability to concentrate, organize, manage time and regulate impulses and emotions. It does not disappear in adulthood: many people receive a first diagnosis in adolescence or adulthood, often after years of unexplained difficulties.
Living with undiagnosed ADHD can affect studies, work, relationships and self-esteem. The good news is that a rigorous evaluation makes it possible to put a name to these challenges and open the door to concrete strategies and, if needed, treatment.
At SM.PRIVÉ, the evaluation is led by general practitioners and combines an in-depth clinical interview with standardized tools. Our approach is medical, humane and non-judgmental, to support you toward a calmer everyday life.
Additional information about the consultation
- A clinical interview and a physical exam will be performed.
- Unlike an evaluation by a neuropsychologist, dyscalculia and dysorthographia will not be addressed.
- Treatment for ADHD may be prescribed if the diagnosis is confirmed. However, if you have a history of, or your interview reveals symptoms of anxiety, depression or other mental health conditions, treatment may be directed differently.
